The orange text behind the black background is great for reading the phone on a sunny day. While I don't use it as an mp3 player the sound quality is pretty good on it overall. Also I can chop up my mp3s and create my own ring tones.
Cnet.com rated it well, but like any other phone there were some complaints. I use it as a cell phone and my favorite thing about it is the battery life. I had to replace my Motorola Razr and after doing some research decided to go with this phone.
It will last for a couple of days with average use. It is a wonderful phone and I wish I would have discovered Sony phones earlier. I personally love it.
So far I have had no issues with it after owning it for five months.
The Bluetooth also seems to work beyond the 30 ft range.+ I've experienced better reception and fewer dropped calls with this phone versus my last phone.- The keys are extremely hard to find reliably especially if you have big fingers like me. My old phone was just one key. I've had my W300i now for about 3 months. I'm always hitting mulitple keys accidentally.- Turning on the speakerphone during a call is at least a three step process. This is stupid.+ Very lightweight.- Did not come with an English manual and shipping company still has not provided one in spite of saying they would months ago. Here's my list of positives and negatives of this phone.+ Great Bluetooth pairing and reception. It was very easy to figure out and pair my first ever Bluetooth device with this phone.
WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS YOU WONT BE ABLE TO CHARGE IT. Luckily both the phones were same so we managed to swap the battery each night before we got a new phone. If any sane person reads and understands this review he will NOT BUY SONY ERICCSSON phones which have this NOVEL and CRAPPY interface. I am giving this phone and other SONY ERICSSON MODELS a BIG ZERO STAR not because it has any functional flaw in terms of lost signals, voice quality, wifi features etc. I am a big fan of SONY and 90% of all electronic items in my house is SONY, but this is ridiculous. Me and my wife bought two SONY phones which has the same interface and the contact broke in 6 months on one of the phones. The problem is NOBODY will look at this flaw when buying a cell-phone because its so rare that you cannot charge your cell phone even though the battery is fine.
(LOOK AT THEIR CHARGING INTERFACE CLOSELY AND YOU PROBABLY DON'T HAVE TO READ THE REST OF THE REVIEW). And if that is not enough, they have the same flaky interface for transferring data, or connecting their head phone. I don't know what the bozos at SONY were thinking when they designed this phone. Its literally a pin-point contact. Imagine someone gave you a Macbook Air with 2 spare batteries but you cannot charge the battery.
Even the phone with latest and greatest of features won't last for more than 6 months because of a very simple flaw in their design. There is no way out of this dead end except throwing that phone because the battery is perfect but you CANNOT CHARGE it. Compare it to the charging connector you get on other phones. When you put the phone on a charger, the battery charges through a pin-point contact. After a couple of months the contact becomes dysfunctional as you would expect from such a contact.
Overall, it takes pretty good pics, but they are grainy when transferred to the computer. I hope that the next phone I get does as well as my first two have. The Sony Ericsson W300i is terrific for texting and talking because of great signal reception and ease of use.
I love this phone though and love the fact that I can change the color of the black part to pretty much any color i want. My very first cell phone was a Nokia 6010. I found a guy on ebay who sells the covers and backs in hot pink, lime green, cobalt blue, turquoise, etc.nice.
I've only bought two phones for myself and both of them are still going strong. The video is small and not very clear once it's been transferred to the computer. It didn't do much, but it served it's purpose and I now consider it the tank of cell phones because it's still working and I keep it as a back up.
My only complaint would be the camera. Same with the video recording.
This is one darn good phone. I spent a few weeks comparing phones before settling on the w300i. It's been about 18 months since I started using it and I've never had any problems with call quality or signal strength.
